Annie & Garrett | Gibbes Museum of Art

This one brings a whole new luxe-wedding vibe to “painting the town red!” Charleston native Annie moved to Nashville on a whim, where her new home just happened to be down the road from Music City local, Garrett, and the two ended up on a date at the neighborhood pub. Right from the beginning there was a strong connection—they each found, in Annie’s words, “a romantic match, but also a best friend” and eventually relocated to the Lowcountry to start their life together. For his New Year’s Eve proposal, Garrett was determined to get those fabulous Charleston Harbor views so he bent his knee on a rooftop bar despite freezing temperatures (they report feeling “too happy to care.”)

Since Annie is the gallery director at Paderewski Fine Art downtown, and since both she and Garrett adore museums, art, and history, The Gibbes Museum of Art on Meeting Street provided the perfect backdrop for their bright affair. Gregory Blake Sams Events expertly integrated flashes of primary red and blue without tipping into a patriotic theme. But decor wasn’t the only unique choice that reflected the happy couple. As plant-based eaters, the pair held strong to their convictions and chose a vegan menu for their guests.

On the Monday before their wedding, Annie’s father suddenly passed away. Even with the shock and deep sadness, she knew her father would want their Big Day to go on. Here she was feeling both extreme grief and tremendous joy—and there were all the people who love her the most in this world, sharing that moment with her. Perhaps it’s a beautiful reminder to us all what weddings are really about: the love we share with our partners, family, and friends.
