Brooks & Tryvge | Private Residence

Seems like you don’t even need to be Irish to have some of their fabled luck. Take Trygve and Brooks for instance: The pair met in Columbus, Ohio, via Match.com and went on their first date on St. Patrick’s Day. Three years later, they were camping at Colorado’s Lake Hartenstein with their pooches when Trygve proposed. Brooks, a New York native, says she spent much of her childhood vacationing in the Lowcountry at her family’s home in Hollywood, South Carolina, and, she says, falling in love with the Lowcountry. A while back, her parents moved here permanently, and she tells us she couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do” than in their backyard. It was a good thing her side was so thoroughly acclimated to the area, though, because a week before the wedding, a major storm passed through and flooded everything between the main house and the tidal creek behind it. “That happened to be the location where the tent, dance floor, and band would be set up,” says Brooks.  The cool-headed crew bided their time, let the waters dissipate, and “everything dried out beautifully,” she says. “You would never have known a week before you would have been dancing in hip waders.” Truly. Thanks to the maestros at Bellafare, the loveliest of at-home ceremonies and receptions sprang up under a canopy of twinkling lights and a full moon. And the Big Day was made even sweeter with personal touches. A raw bar was served in a canoe (something the bride’s parents had done at their wedding, too), and the MOB baked the couple’s favorite carrot cake using a recipe that had been passed down from Brooks’ great-grandmother. Sounds yummy, right? After a session with some ooey gooey late-night s’mores, the newlyweds flitted off to Peru for a 10-day excursion. Lucky pair, indeed!
