Clay & Caitlin | Legare Waring House

Once upon a time a South Carolina boy introduced a Maryland girl to Charleston. Little did they know the Lowcountry would become the backdrop of their love story—romantic trips, a big popped question, and eventually a pair of “I do’s.” When Clay (our SC boy) and Caitlin (our MD girl) started dating right before graduating medical school, they were already committed to residencies on opposite sides of the country. Three long years of occasional visits couldn’t dampen true love, and Clay proposed at The Restoration Hotel after breakfast in bed (literally the perfect morning). Settled now in Seattle, the couple knew they wanted their wedding to stay timeless, simple, and quintessentially Charlestonian. From the Spanish moss and live oaks at Legare Waring House to the classic southern fare from Salthouse Catering (nothing like pulled pork on benne wafers and shrimp and grits to welcome you to the Lowcountry), let’s just say … goal achieved! Perhaps the most unique, yet totally Charleston addition, was a Candlefish bar. Guests experienced the “fragrance library” of the popular local candle shop and chose their favorite as a favor. There were plenty of sweet moments: Caitlin giving musical Clay an “I pick you” guitar pick and special quiet time, just the two of them, before the reception. There were plenty of giggles too: when Clay realized he accidentally booked the rehearsal dinner for the night of their wedding (you read that right! No worries, the venue accommodated) and when local raccoons crashed the reception. But overall, the day was dominated by plenty of romance and Charleston beauty, sending bride and groom right on into their next chapter, happily and merrily.
