Emily and Alex’s Big Day may look effortlessly picture-perfect (thanks to the expert styling skills of Blythe Hill at Hill & Co. Creative), but according to Emily, there was a moment before the ceremony when she wasn’t sure that would be the case. The situation? The bus carrying the bridal party of 17 (the biggest crew we’ve seen yet here at TWR) to Middleton Place broke down, and the bride and her overflowing entourage were left standing on the side of the road waiting for Ubers to pick them up and take them the rest of the way. Emily didn’t let that ruin the day, though, and now even laughs about it. “Looking back,” says the Houston, Texas, resident, “I’m sure it was a hilarious scene to see a bridal party of 17 girls and me standing on the side of the country road.” Their luck improved from there, thankfully, perhaps due to these silver Nuernberg cups, wedding day heirlooms from the groom’s family. As the legend goes, centuries ago a noble young woman fell in love with a goldsmith. Her father disapproved of the match, and told his would-be son-in-law that he could only marry his daughter if the artisan could make a chalice from which two people could drink at the same time. These clever chalices are the result of his puzzle-solving prowess, which allowed the two to be happily hitched. Today, it’s said that couples who drink from Nuernberg cups are reportedly rewarded with love, faithfulness, and good luck. Such a sweet tradition! Judging by these gorgeous photos, it seems that the magic is alive and well.
