Jaclyn & Dustin | The Cedar Room

Houston-born Jaclyn and North Carolina-native Dustin were both living in Charlotte, North Carolina, when they were set up on a blind date. Jaclyn had very recently moved to the Queen City, and says she meant to call things off after that first date because she didn’t want to start anything serious while getting settled in town. (Obviously, she changed her mind … ) On one of their first dates, Dustin, a photographer, took a selfie photo of the pair eating in front of a building. Recreating that snapshot became an annual dating anniversary tradition for them, and when year two rolled around, Jaclyn was ready to say “Cheese.” What she was not expecting? Dustin getting down on one knee as the camera captured everything on video. The two knew they wanted a destination wedding (their family was out-of-town after all and would have to travel), and after picking Charleston say they fell in love with The Cedar Room thanks to its exposed brick walls and towering interior columns. “We also loved that Bar Mash was right downstairs—makes for a great after party,” Jaclyn says.  As for Big Day “musts”? “For me,” she says, “the biggest ‘must’ was anything that would keep people entertained and having a good time. That’s what it’s all about, right? From the cigar bar to the photo booth to serving champagne as guests walked in the door before the ceremony—all these things were important to me to make sure everyone was happy and having as much fun as we were.” Hear, hear!
