Liz & John | Lowndes Grove Plantation

Who doesn’t have a soft spot for college sweethearts? Liz and John met their sophomore year at Providence College in Rhode Island, not knowing that nine years later John would propose on the very same campus. The two chose Charleston for their destination wedding because although they had previously traveled here and fallen in love with it, many of their friends and family had never been to the city. And a getaway weekend with all their loved ones nearby? That sounded like perfection to the bride. As for the Big Day itself, the couple wanted to keep the ceremony and reception at downtown’s Lowndes Grove Plantation simple. Says Liz, “I knew I didn’t want something overly complicated or the expensive look of a traditional wedding. I wanted everything to look super personal and organic.” We think she succeeded! From the leafy green décor by Tiger Lily Weddings and the natural color palette of the bridesmaid dresses to the candlelight and the naked cake from pastry chef Jessica Grossman of Patrick Properties Hospitality Group, everything about their fête radiates effortless style. And even Liz’s Elizabeth Filmore gown fit right into the aesthetic with its swanky meets ethereal cut. All that, combined with a Southern menu, a packed dance floor, and sunset photos on the water, made for one unforgettable wedding night for the couple, all of their loved ones, and now us, too. *Sigh*
