Mary Lake & Tyler | Hibernian Hall

A week before Mary Lake was to depart for her freshman year at Clemson University, a mutual friend introduced her to Tyler, a fellow Charleston-ian, and a fellow incoming Tiger. Having written off seeing each other again due to Clemson’s whopping number of students, they were surprised when that didn’t turn out to be the case. Before long, the two were besties for the resties and went on to date for 10 years (yes, you read that right). Even after all that time, Tyler still managed to surprise Mary Lake with his romantic boat proposal, so much so that she almost fainted when he got down on one knee. Their long awaited nuptials took place at St. Michael’s Church, followed by a wedding march featuring few brass players en route to Hibernian Hall. There’s an image of Mary Lake chatting up a police officer to prove it (he was to make sure the streets were clear for the march.) As the bride’s family knows a thing or two about weddings, (her father owned a catering company, and her mother a floral company), no aspect of their fabulous set-up was overlooked. The sweetest detail? Their wedding cake by Charleston Cakes etc., had, hidden and piped in icing, “best wishes.” The pair only noticed it just as they were cutting into their funfetti-flavored confection. Talk about a happy ending.
