Nina & Brett | Middleton Place

One Monday night, at an East Carolina University bar in Greenville, North Carolina, Pirates Nina and Brett bonded over, as she sheepishly jokes, their love of a good deal on beer. But there was obviously so much more there. “Brett actually wanted to go on a date and open the car door for me,” says Nina, “rather than meet up at a party or bar. (And OMG—in college that is a very big deal.)” His gentlemanly gestures ushered the two into coupledom, and four and a half years later during a walk on Sullivan’s Island with their 10-week-old pup, Charlie, Brett asked Nina to marry him. Since the two North Carolina natives had moved to Charleston after graduation, they invited one and all a wedding here and requested that Ooh! Events incorporate their alma mater into the look and feel of the celebration at Middleton Place. The ceremony had all the stuff of Lowcountry dreams (Spanish moss, marsh views, gorgeous gardens), and to cap it off, they hosted a reception at The Pavilion there.  (They were the first couple to inaugurate the new “green” building with a Big Day fete). With hues of purple and gold scattered throughout the décor and a show-stopping marbleized cake from ABCD cakes, Nina and Brett’s wedding is one worth toasting, which, given their origins, we are sure they did. Cheers to that! (Scroll on for a host of our favorite images from Dana Cubbage Weddings.)
