Being that we cover the Lowcountry—a relatively small (but mightily alluring) region—there’s little cause for our fashion team to hit the road for an overnighter. But there’s been one place that we’ve long wanted to explore: Montage Palmetto Bluff. Roadblocks have popped up over the years, time or budget constraints, people in our crew getting pregnant or tending to infants, and so on. But this year, the stars aligned and we caravanned to the secluded resort community on the shores of the May River between Beaufort and Hilton Head Island. By the time all of us (that’s one photographer, two editors, two stylists, one makeup artist, two nannies, two toddler boys, and one fantastic model) had assembled, the little guys were up way past bedtime, yet we couldn’t help but scoot between the (stunning) rental homes they’d set aside for us, checking in with each other and checking out our luxurious, gas-lit surroundings. The next morning, we were joined by day-trippin’ interns and the staff video maverick, and the lot of us ended up staying two and a half days to capture this shoot.
I bring all this up because as many times as we’ve covered Palmetto Bluff, and as much as I’ve been there on my own, there’s nothing—nothing—like escaping your nine-to-five with those near and dear to transport you into a joyful state of mind and spirit. Wrap that in a marshland setting, where gathering around the community s’mores cart and firepit is just what you do, and you’re in pinch-yourself territory. No wonder our corner of the world reigns as such a hot spot for destination weddings and bachelorette bashes! Whether your clan is made up of locals who don’t get to tune in and drop out together often, those from “off,” or a mix, we hope you soak up every second, and experience that magical math that makes a few days last so much longer and the memories stretch on even further.
