Ahoy, Matey | Love the water? Say “Yes!” to a ceremony at sea

Wendy Wilcoxon & Richard Stewart
November, 2013
Fate, Charleston Harbor

When you’re swapping vows smack dab in the middle of Charleston Harbor, ceremony décor can be—and should be—understated. “What more do you need than to raise the sails and use the city as your backdrop?” asks Daniel Island resident Wendy Wilcoxon, who wed Richard Stewart last November aboard Fate (843/557-7403, www.CharlestonSailingCharters.com), Charleston Sailing Charter’s 2007 Beneteau sailboat. The sea-loving pair chose the vessel for its intimate size as well as for its name. “It was fate that brought us together,” the bride says of meeting Richard while she was picking up takeout food from Daniel Island Grille 10 months prior to their “I dos.” After a barefoot ceremony, the newlyweds enjoyed hors d’eouvres, spirits, and a sunset cruise with their families before heading ashore for a small dinner reception at Charleston Grill. Afterward, the pair returned to Fate for a night docked at the Charleston City Marina. “We flirted with the idea of eloping to a Caribbean island but realized we have the most romantic place in the world right here,” says Wendy.
