For Courtney and Carter Rowson, planning a Lowcountry wedding was much like inviting a few close friends over for dinner. “Of course, it’s not easy to pull off a cozy affair for 250 guests,” admits Courtney. “But because neither of us can really call Charleston our hometown, we wanted to make sure the atmosphere carried the same air of warmth and familiarity. We wanted it to be similar to entertaining in our own home.” The couple enlisted the help of Heather Barrie of Gathering Floral + Event Design, who began pairing family heirlooms and vintage-inspired elements with flowers and food that reflected fall in the Lowcountry. Antique table linens complemented rustic garden urns full of pomegranates and pears, while creative lighting bathed the Cotton Dock at Boone Hall Plantation in a warm glow. “We really tried to play off the season,” Courtney says. “We knew this would make our guests feel welcome.”
