"I’m a huge fan of color,” says Jane Barron. “And since our wedding was to take place outside in the spring, I wanted the colors to be bright and vibrant. But,” she adds, “I also wanted the décor and flowers to be simple and not overwhelming.” With that vision in mind, Jane told floral maven Lisa Thomas of Ooh! Events she wanted her favorite color (purple) and her fiancé’s favorite (orange) to rule their Magnolia Plantation and Gardens wedding. Lisa was on board from the start as she, too, loves bold pairings, and as the two colors sit on opposite ends of the color wheel and are thus complementary.

To keep the palette natural and deep, Lisa varied the mix of blooms. “The trick is that we used about five types of orange flowers with slightly different tones and textures,” she says, “and the same goes for the purples—we used pale Blue Bird roses, thistle, and blooming lavender.” As Lisa pulled together the bridal bouquet, she emphasized the event’s organic style by spreading the disparate colors unevenly, and clustering like hues to avoid a forced, overly balanced look.

Then, to allow Jane’s bouquet—and groom David Hanisch’s orange boutonnière—to stand out at the ceremony, Lisa opted for tone-on-tone purple blossoms in the bridesmaid bouquets. When the reception rolled around, orange tulips mingled with sprays of curly willow in tabletop arrangements while tall, cylindrical vases filled with oranges, lavender roses, and white hydrangeas dressed buffet areas. All in all, the effect, like the colorful couple themselves, was refreshingly unforgettable.
