Best Dressed | The season’s richest bridal looks showcase all the color, opulence, and silhouettes of early 20th-century glamour. Here, these toniest of gowns are right at home amidst the recently restored Gibbes Museum of Art,
a paradise of Edwardian style
When we first visited the newly restored and redressed Gibbes Museum of Art, we were blown away by its majestic architecture, grand sense of space inside and out, and fabulous art collection. The Campbell Rotunda (known for the stained glass dome that tops it) sculpture gallery particularly struck us and we know brides and grooms hosting weddings there are in for epic memories. So, taking a cue from the Edwardian period when the museum first opened its stylish doors to patrons, we brought the season’s most timeless gowns here to harken the era where colorful laces, layered luxe fabrics, hand-embroidered veils, and jewels upon jewels reigned. Looking for a major Big Day statement in a storied location? Look no further than the gallery above.
ABOUT THE GIBBES
The Gibbes Museum of Art presides over Meeting Street with a bold Beaux Art façade that’s a great match for classically styled weddings. In the front, granite set in a checkerboard pattern spills down its stairs down onto the sidewalk like a sweeping invitation for guests; the back of the 1905 building resembles a Parisian public garden complete with oversized planted urns, charming iron benches, seats, and tables, and a decorative fountain. Both the rotunda gallery upstairs and the museum garden are grand spaces for receptions and ceremonies. For information on renting the venue, click here.
