Charleston residents Claire Cavell and Jon Hale met at Leaf when Claire did her self-described awkward best to introduce herself to a clueless Jon by sidling up and asking if the seat next to him (in a sea of empty bar stools) was taken. Jon’s pal gave him the “she’s interested” nudge and helped the two into their first conversation. Seven months of dating later, and Jon, a history professor at the College of Charleston, took Claire and their dog, Agnes, to meet friends at the Avery Institute on Bull Street. “Once we had reached the front of the building,” says Claire, “Jon began saying the most amazing things and all of a sudden his head started sinking lower and lower until finally I realized he was down on one knee. He made sure to include Agnes in the proposal and we both very eagerly accepted.”
From there, Claire, who works at BenefitFocus, teamed up with her mother to fashion a reception and wedding brimming over with effortless, boho style.
