HOW DASHING: Cagney wore a gown from Modern Trousseau’s King Street shop; Zack’s ensemble came from Charleston Tuxedo.

YOU’RE INVITED: Scotti Cline Designs carried the Lowndes Grove’s façade through the stationery suite, designed in the day’s signature bright pink and melon-colored palette.

TARHEEL FOREVER: Cagney, who went to UNC-Chapel Hill, had Anne Dabney of stems wrap her bouquet with a Carolina Blue satin ribbon. “I love the way it stood out against my dress,” she says.

SACRED UNION: Cagney and Zack exchanged vows beneath a driftwood chuppah (in honor of his Jewish background) accented with magnolia leaves and vibrant roses.

CULTURE CLUB: “For the ceremony we envisioned a dramatic huppah covered in flowers,” says Cagney.

LEAD THE WAY: Rose petals in the day’s colors lined the aisle.

TUTU CUTE: Zack’s first cousins served as flower girls in pink leotards and tutus. “Zack and I wanted their young and fun spirits to shine,” says Cagney.

CARRY ON: The flower girls carried simple baskets—found at any craft store—adorned with chalkboard-style hearts.

PRETTY IN PINK: “They were super-adorable,” says Cagney of Zack’s second cousins. “As they went down the aisle, they placed each petal one-by-one on the ground very delicately.”

PARTNERS IN LOVE: “Zack completely pitched in during the planning process,” says Cagney. “From calling transportation vendors to choosing the band’s set list, handling hotel block reservations, and managing a crazy fiancé, he did it all with a smile on his face. My husband rocks.”

LESS IS MORE: A few stems of fuchsia dahlias popped in a simple glass vase, dotted around the reception. Bold colors mean fewer blooms are needed, which can save money.

ON BALANCE: Burlap table runners gave texture and a grounding neutral element to the otherwise vibrant color palette.

BRIGHTEN UP: “Cagney had never thought she was a ‘pink’ girl, but the palette just came together organically; the pinks, oranges, yellows—all happy, amazing, bright cheery colors to reflect the families’ fun, outgoing personalities,” says Lizz of Southern Protocol.

BIG IMPACT: Tables featured bright orange dahlias and coral peonies.

GIRL ON FIRE: Inspired by one of Cagney’s Pinterest posts, stems used sherbet-hued pink and orange dahlias, lilies, roses, sweet peas, and succulents for the bridal bouquet.

LIGHT THE WAY: To introduce a fun zip of color, hang lanterns with cheery, colored ribbon.

SO SERENE: Place lounge areas where guests can get away from the hubbub of the wedding and take in Charleston’s vistas. Here, a perfect setup was situated steps away from the Ashley River, a prime spot to take in the sunset.

GATHER ROUND: A 360-degree lounge banquet gave the reception tent a cocktail club feel. Custom-made pillows in the wedding’s signature colors and patterns and a voluminous curly willow, rose, and hydrangea centerpiece by stems made the gathering spot welcoming.

Lowndes Grove Plantation

On a hot air balloon ride in Asheville, North Carolina, Zack Stein proposed to his girlfriend of three years, Cagney Elrod. Back on firm ground, the two chose Charleston for their Big Day since both had visited as children, and she is a self-professed “beach girl” who wanted an outdoor wedding, sans sand. When Cagney laid her eyes on Lowndes Grove Plantation’s stately Southern façade, everything came together. “I imagined stark white linens and décor with bright pops of color for drama,” says Cagney, who enlisted Lizz Akerman of Southern Protocol and Anne Dabney of stems to bring her dream to life with punchy pinks, melon orange, and oodles of flowers. “Everything about the wedding had an upbeat, charming, happy, Southern feel,” says Lizz. “It was, as every bridesmaid said, ‘So Cagney.’"
