In October 2011, persistence paid off for Rob Culler. After briefly chatting with Alicia Marshall at a friend’s house in October 2011, Rob asked and asked again for Alicia’s phone number from their mutual friend. Finally the friend conceded, leading to a first phone call, which led to a first date at Amen Street on East Bay Street downtown, which led to a proposal at John’s house 10 months later, complete with a homemade meal, dancing, and singing to Lenny Williams’ “’Cause I love you.” “The song lasted eight minutes and he knew all of the words,” laughs Alicia.

Following a “Yes!” the local pair got to planning a Big Day here in the Holy City. Craving a beach-set wedding complete with a barefoot walk down the aisle, the couple chose The Cottages on Charleston Harbor—“It was the perfect spot for our wedding,” says Alicia of the Mount Pleasant venue—then enlisted the help of planner Alison McMaster of Masterfully Planned Weddings & Events. On the special day, Montgomery, Alabama, native Alicia and Rob, of Anderson, South Carolina, said “I do”—or in Rob’s case, “Absolutely!”—amid 150 family and friends. Afterward, the newlyweds dined and danced with guests beneath a tent lit by twinkling café lights and Japanese lanterns, then indulged in a dessert of bananas foster and King of Pops popsicles. “Alicia and Rob’s wedding was simple, relaxed, and quite possibly had the most non-stop dancing guests one has ever seen,” says planner Alison McMaster of the harbor-side soirée.
