Color Theory | Spring forth with an array of pretty pastels and inspirational floral tips
When wedding planners and vendors aren’t in the midst of their busy season, they sometimes team up to create inspiration photo shoots, like this one at Summerville’s Lovegrove Estate envisioned by Monique Gruenthal of Ohh La La Events and captured by Alisha Croghan of Him & Her Photography. Gruenthal has done 25 inspired shoots since 2021 and says it’s “a great way to stretch our legs creatively.” It’s all about coming up with a concept—in this case a pastel color palette—and pulling together an A-team of vendors.

“I just adore all the colors that Charleston has to offer,” says Gruenthal. “We went off of Rainbow Row and chose flowers and dresses that went along with that.” The “Pink Figgy,” an adorable 1991 Figaro, made an appearance. And Jennifer DeRossell of Antique Rose Floral went above and beyond with an over-the-top display to match, plus wearable florals to enhance a simple mini dress. Check out the team’s tips for this soft springtime look.

Make the Look Your Own
Break the rules. There’s a long-standing tradition of picking two wedding colors. “But brides don’t have to be stuck,” says Gruenthal. Working within a color family (a group of colors of the same hue like blue-green) and pulling in various tints and shades of the hue allows you to bring in more colors that all work together.

Flowers soften the vibe. If you’re more conservative when it comes to color, flowers are a great way to pull in more color without overwhelming.

Beyond black. Grooms need not fear color. In fact, more grooms are choosing suits that go beyond the standard black and navy. Or opt for a colorful floral boutonniere.

Pick a photographer that suits your style. If your colors are more earthy or jewel tone, you may consider a photographer that uses warm tones and higher contrast (think moody and dramatic) versus someone whose photography is bright, vibrant, more true to color (shown here) or light and airy (a cooler feel).
