Creative Signage | A Charleston “letter artist” takes modern calligraphy to a whole new level that brides (and celebs) adore

Antique mirrors, copper trays, leaves, even shotgun shells–you name it, Meghan Trotter has calligraphed it. Since she took a scripting class in the fall of 2014, the Columbia, South Carolina, native realized her true passion for, as she calls it, letter artistry. So strong was its lure, she left her job as a wedding event manager, got her own business license, and turned her one-time side hustle into a full-time gig. From there, J.Lily Design (@j.lilydesign)—named after her two pooches, Jax and Lily—was born.

Versed as she is in all things weddings, Meghan turns envelopes, welcome signs, table cards, and more into unique and show-stopping pieces of art that become keepsakes for brides, grooms, and their guests. And everyone’s taking note: Her creations have appeared in The Knot, BRIDES, Martha Stewart Weddings, and Style Me Pretty, among others, plus she did work for Tara Lipinski’s wedding at Middleton Place last year.

Meghan, who works from her home in West Ashley, has inked floats, water bottles, and, her current favorite, acrylic anything. Prices range from $3 to $3.50 per addressed envelope to $18 to $25 for smaller signs and $75 and up for larger pieces (lettered mirrors start at $225). Interested? Contact her at least three months before your wedding to get rolling.
