While these two both graduated from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and both ended up in the same department at Wells Fargo in the Queen City, it wasn’t until Amanda was in Charleston for a bachelorette party the same weekend Joey was here for the Bridge Run that sparks flew. And when you connect with your person on a rooftop (in this case, at the Market Pavilion bar), it’s only fitting you propose somewhere similarly striking. So it was that Joey asked for Amanda’s hand on vacation in Dublin, Ireland, at the Guinness Storehouse rooftop bar overlooking the city.

Still, when it came time for their Big Day, they took a more grounded approach and invited guests to experience Lowcountry living along the banks of a tidal river. “We wanted people to come hang out on the porches, take in the sunset, and eat great food,” says Amanda, “and that’s exactly what they did. Our wedding was the ultimate get-together and it was amazing!”

What They Recommend

• Make your décor work double-time. The arbor served as a wedding altar during the ceremony and backdrop for portraits thereafter.
• Satisfy your sweet tooth. The bride loves desserts and indulged with a trio of cakes in various flavors. She also had Krispy Kreme Doughnuts on hand for the less adventurous.
• Pick and choose where to splurge. Large floral installations (over the mantel, on the arbor, on a few tables) made a bigger impact than a sea of modest arrangements.
• Celebrate both the masculine and feminine. Add rustic elements (like uncovered farmhouse tables) to a soft setting to make yours a his-and-hers celebration.
