Raise your hand if your love of hosting is rooted in family memories. Thought so! Stephanie Summerson Hall, known for her boutique rental company, Ruth’s House Event Rentals out of Charleston and Moncks Corner, can relate. And now she can credit it with her latest endeavor, an online shop dubbed Estelle Colored Glass (803/496-7433; EstelleColoredGlass.com) of stunning crystal ware, primed for wedding gifts, hostess gifts, Big Day toasting, and more.
The original Estelle was Stephanie’s grandmother, who’d let her granddaughter tag along antiquing when she was out of school for the summer. “Big Mama” had an eye for colored glass (it dressed her Sunday spreads) and those treasures gave rise to Stephanie’s own fandom. Side note: Estelle would make treats for those who’d drop in after church and display them in fine fashion. “Her signature,” says Stephanie, “was a from-scratch decadent vanilla pound cake ... on a colored glass cake stand and served with a side of strawberry JELL-O topped with whipped cream.”
Whether you’re ready to whip up a pound cake or not, you can’t help but be smitten with the rainbow-hued pieces, handblown in Poland at a factory that’s been crafting for more than a century. Cake stands run $225 and stemware is $175 for each piece. To protect your investment, each shipment includes a keepsake box that makes safe storage simple and stylish both.
