Introduced by mutual friends in 2019, Lowcountry natives Sarah Margaret and Evans felt they “had been to every type of Charleston wedding” by the time they planned their own. On the tail of a laid-back proposal at the bride’s family home in Avondale, the couple began brainstorming an event that would feel truly their own. Sarah Margaret’s list of must-haves was short but specific: a mid-morning brunch, a touch of velvet, and the musical stylings of Michael Bublé. Her planner Megan Chandler (also her best friend from college) got straight to work. 
 
The morning after an intimate ceremony at First Baptist Church of Charleston, the couple gathered their loved ones for a brunch celebration at Mount Pleasant’s Post House Inn. Sarah Margaret donned a tea-length dress from Lela Rose, Evans sported a Sid Mashburn suit, and the bridesmaids wore their pick of velvet frocks—a motif that appeared throughout the reception. The party played out over decadent Southern cuisine, crisp wines, and live music from the perfect cover band: Shades of Bublé. That afternoon, the crowd relocated to the Restoration Hotel, where the revelry continued well into the night.  “Our wedding was full of extremely close friends,  so we soaked up all that we could,” says the bride. “Best. Day. Ever.”

Veterans of the Charleston wedding circuit, Sarah Margaret and Evans made their day distinct with a brunch time frame and countless personal touches, like booking a Michael Bublé tribute trio. 
 
• Choose a visual motif. 
Velvet accents appeared throughout the reception, from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the coasters, menus, and signage. 
 
• Say it with a favor. 
In keeping with the brunch theme, guests all went home with bottled frosé from The Co-Op—a favorite of the bride’s.
