According to Southern tradition, burying a bottle of Bourbon in the place you’ll be married gurantees a sunny wedding day. It worked for Macy and Connor, who unearthed a bottle of Four Roses the morning of their big day and shared a few sips with his groomsman. With blue skies and love on their side, nothing could go wrong on their wedding day and indeed, it all came off without a hitch.

The couple met in 2018 and despite being long-distance due to school, they’ve never been apart in their hearts since. They chose the Governor Thomas Bennett House for the ceremony and reception, citing its classic Charleston grandeur and oasis-like feel. The venue was made all the more special by a floral arbor overflowing with white hydrangeas and roses—one of the wow factors of the wedding, dreamed up by the bride, her planner Chauncey and the team at Bouquets and Bowties, and the floral design crew at Branch Design Studio.

The couple honored the past with a vintage cake topper used by Macy’s parents. But they also injected their personality into the event with “fun fact” cocktail napkins and late-night mini pizzas with their dog’s face on the box. For their exit, they hopped in a flower-adorned pedicab, waving to King Street well-wishers as they went.

TOP TIPS

• Make a list of your must-haves. Try not to get carried away by details you originally didn’t really have strong opinions about.
• Find vendors who feel like friends. It will make it a lot easier for you to trust them and have an open dialogue about your plans.
• Spend wisely. Invest in things you will take away from the day and have forever, such as photography and videography, to show future generations.
