Oh, Happy Day!

HEY, GOOD LOOKIN’: In classic Charleston style, CeeCee paired her Amsale gown with pearls, and John dressed in a pale blue Jos. A. Bank seersucker suit.

NATURAL ACCESSORY: Branch Design Studio used oversized succulents and bright blooms to complement the bridesmaids’ J.Crew dresses.

SNEAK ATTACK: Candice of YOJ furnished these pale blue bridesmaids parasols, which the women used to shield CeeCee from her groom and the guests during her walk from the plantation house to the ceremony aisle on the front lawn.

HEART SONG: The groomsmen serenaded the couple during the reception.

HAVING A BALL: Citrus yellow Billy Balls wrapped with Dusty Miller leaves made for light-hearted boutonnieres pinned to the gentlemen’s seersucker suits.

DÉJÀ VU: Flower girls wore heirloom dresses passed down from John’s parents’ wedding.

KIDS RULE: Flower girls Margaret and Lilly, who wore heirloom dresses that belonged to their mothers, toted green baskets full of petals. Ring bearer Richard followed close behind.

IN THE SHADOWS: The house and giant oaks shaded guests from the July sun.

DRIVING MISS DAISY: Trolleys and buses rented from Absolutely Charleston shuttled guests from downtown hotels to Lowndes Grove Plantation.

CHILD’S PLAY: In age-old tradition, John’s baby bonnet was wrapped around CeeCee’s bouquet of Dusty Miller, white peonies, and yellow ranunculus. Succulents provided a textural element, and sprigs of chamomile and Billy Balls added whimsy.

SUNNY DAYS: Eye-catching yellow florals added a touch of whimsy to the modern furniture and décor.

THREE’S COMPANY: Branch Design Studio arranged a trio of cymbidium, Jamie Storie, and oncidium orchids for playful coffee-table arrangements.

CONTRASTING COLORS: Deep blue linens served as a backdrop for vibrant flowers that Branch Design Studio “planted” in milk glass vases and ceramic tea cups and atop cake stands.

WILD FLOWER: Tall stalks of daisy chamomile lent an innocent, straight-from-the-garden feel, while artfully stained votive candleholders conveyed formality.

DOG DAYS: Though they couldn’t make the journey to Charleston, CeeCee and John’s pups were there in spirit: drink signs sported Sadie and Hudson’s silhouettes, along with the elements of the cocktails named in their honor.

MULTI-PURPOSE: Embroidered accent pillows showcased CeeCee’s custom logo, which paid homage to the couple’s furry friends.

WRITE AWAY: CeeCee, a graphic designer by trade, juxtaposed classic script fonts with modern typefaces throughout the stationery suit, including on the programs.

WORD ART: The wedding day schedule of events (designed by the bride) incorporated cute icons to guide guests through the night’s festivities.

TOUCH OF CLASS: Black wooden framing, along with gauzy draping and geometric block shades, made for a chic bar environment. Candice upholstered the bar front in an ikat-meets-chevron pattern to add texture and to play off the oyster-tabby floor.

BOTTOMS UP: Lowcountry Lemonade was served as the signature beverage, alongside custom-mixed drinks named after the couple’s dogs, Sadie and Hudson.

CHEERS TO GOOD HEALTH: These heirloom silver goblets have made an appearance at many a Cassidy family wedding over the ages. Keeping with tradition, CeeCee and John used the antiques for their first toast.

SOMETHING BORROWED: Fish Restaurant’s vanilla, chocolate, and passion-fruit tiered cake mimicked CeeCee’s sash, which bore big blossoms.

VANTAGE POINT: For guests who wanted to watch the sun go down over the Ashley River, Candice placed umbrella-shaded tables by the dock.

FIRE WORKS: On their way out, guests picked up monogrammed tea light candles and matchboxes as favors.

THE PATRIOTS: Though the sparkler send-off was a once-in-a-lifetime event, CeeCee says she and John hope to spend their anniversary in Charleston every Fourth of July weekend.

Lowndes Grove Plantation

When CeeCee Cambron’s Grandma Nell spied her grand-daughter chatting with John Cassidy after the girl’s soccer game, the matriarch knew something was brewing. Though CeeCee said her fellow Darlington High School student and she were “just friends,” time proved grandma right. The sweethearts dated while in school in Rome, Georgia; throughout their time at Ole Miss; and relocated to John’s hometown, Jacksonville, Florida, after graduation. Once settled there, John insisted that a housewarming gift swap was in order. CeeCee bought him grilling tools, while John compiled a scrapbook of their lives together. On the back, a caption read, “Will you marry me?”

“I said ‘Yes!’” CeeCee remembers. “I think deep down we—and our families—just always knew.”

As they brainstormed ceremony locales, Charleston soon rose to the forefront. “We knew we wanted a destination wedding in the South,” CeeCee explains. “In college, John and I took a trip to Charleston for a Fourth of July weekend, and it just always stuck with us.” The couple entrusted Candice Hilse of YOJ Events to bring a lively vibe to Lowndes Grove Plantation.

“Vibrant patterns and colors and an historic plantation—right up my alley,” says CeeCee. Working with a palette of blue, gray, and citrine, Candice incorporated fun prints on accent pillows and lounge furniture. On the actual day, cheery florals reflected the mood, CeeCee and John swapped vows in front of the
majestic mansion, and guests hammed it up all evening in a photo booth. “It felt like summer and happiness,” says Candice. “That was exactly what we wanted,” says the bride.
