TWICE AS NICE: The couple, who wore boots and vintage garb, asked the bridesmaids to pick their own attire and the groomsmen to sport vests.

PIN IT: The Foxglove Arrangement Society (Lisa’s floral business) did the wedding flowers.

GAL PALS: Bridesmaids wore brown-hued frocks of their choosing. One of Lisa’s attendants, Rory Johnson (here, second from the right), gifted the bride the 1950s prom dress she wore as her wedding gown.

KEEP IT CASUAL: Seth’s groomsmen donned jeans, dark vests, and shirts in a myriad of colors—a laidback look well-suited for the wedding’s aesthetic.

CAST OF COLORS: Lisa arranged an all-white bridal bouquet and bridesmaid bunches of blue hydrangea, cream-colored wax flowers, and orange dahlias.

SET THE STAGE: “The location, artist Eva Carter's home on Wadmalaw Island, created a beautiful refuge for our wedding,” says the bride. An unplanned bonus? “It delighted us with the most gorgeous sunset,” Lisa adds

SOUNDTRACK SURPRISES: The Star Wars theme song played as the wedding party entered the reception. “It was super fun and a favorite of Seth’s,” says Lisa.

STILL LIFE: Fabric found in a thrift store—and sewn into tablecloths by Lisa's mother—served as the foundation for the wedding's aesthetic while vintage pottery, miniature wrought iron cages, and vases filled with flowers provided the collected look Lisa and Seth love.

WORDS WITH FRIENDS: Guests circled words that represent Lisa and Seth—and hopes they have for the two—in an old dictionary and marked the pages with paper clips.

NAME GAME: Lisa and Seth’s table featured Scrabble tiles spelling out her nickname (Burd) and his favorite animal (bear). “It’s just us,” says Lisa.

SAY CHEESE! An old school backdrop brought the nuptials’ vintage-inspired theme to the photo booth.

MANY THANKS: Thinking ahead, the couple had Sully Sullivan catch this shot, which they shared with their friends and family after the Big Day to show their appreciation.

LET IT FLY: Lisa and Seth exited their reception (with their puppy in tow) amid a shower of birdseed.

The lives of paper and textile artist Lisa Abernathy and pen and ink illustrator Seth Corts have long been intertwined. Years after continuously crossing paths in Boone, North Carolina, and Charleston, where each has lived, Seth finally asked Lisa to dinner after they had run into each other at yet another concert. “The rest is history,” says Lisa, who chose painter Eva Carter’s marsh-front house on Wadmalaw Island for their nuptials and set to work to plan a celebration that felt like home. “We like to create clusters of our favorite items—secondhand books, toys, and records,” says Lisa, who staged similar vignettes throughout the reception. After Lisa donned a 1950s frock and cowboy boots, Seth (sporting a vintage tie and denim) took her hand, and they walked together to a ceremony that overlooked the water. “The wedding was our own unique melding of traditional with quirky, colorful independence,” says Lisa.
