Summer Lovin'

Summer Lovin' |
A Charlotte pair ties the knot along the banks of the Ashley River amid friends, family ... and a heat index of 111 degrees Fahrenheit

Lowndes Grove Plantation

When Nick proposed to Heather, she knew immediately that they would tie the knot in Charleston. The North Carolina-based couple frequently fled the hustle and bustle of Charlotte for quick trips to the Holy City—thanks to Heather’s family having a beach house on Isle of Palms. After selecting Lowndes Grove Plantation for their August celebration, they immediately began planning ways to keep their summer affair as fun (and cool) as possible.

A. Caldwell Events put together a breezy palette of whites, cool blues, and springy greens which took shape under the tent in the form of long banquet tables lined with white chiavari chairs and tall arrangements of blue delphinium, greenery, and willow branches by Tiger Lily Weddings. After photographer Clay Austin had captured portraits of the newlyweds on the grounds and dock, everyone tucked into a meal by Fish Restaurant. Thankfully, the gorgeous four-tiered cake, which had been covered in white garden roses, hydrangea, and spray roses, was kept pristinely cool inside the plantation home. The celebration really kicked it into full gear when DJ Wade turned up the volume and invited everyone out onto the dance floor.

"We realized two thinks very quickly," says Heather of the day. "The heat was almost unbearable ... and not a single guest seemed to care."
