Sometimes a couple’s backstory is just as charming as their wedding album. Here’s one such pair. While crunching numbers in an accounting class at the University of Georgia, sparks flew between Alpharetta, Georgia, native Danny and Stephanie, of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Six years later, the pair had relocated together to New York City for their careers, and in time, Danny surprised Stephanie with a trip to Italy, where, on the rooftop of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Milan, he dropped to one knee and proposed.

Little wonder, then that such a romantic pair would want to wed in what we think (and Travel + Leisure has proclaimed) is America’s most romantic city. On their Big Day, they had 40 of their (truly) nearest and dearest joining them at The William Aiken House for a ceremony that was officiated by a friend whose hilarious and heartfelt homily had everyone in tears and stitches both. The images tell the rest of the story, but here’s one more “backstage” tidbit: “At one point in the evening we thought the bride and groom had gone missing,” says Ali of A. Caldwell Events, who fashioned the evening in gorgeous linens, chandeliers, and blooms from Tiger Lily Weddings. “Then we saw them dancing together under a chandelier in the pergola. Before we knew it, their guests joined the fun … They were a wonderful couple and their spunk and love for one another made it an evening to remember.” Cheers to that, and many thanks to them and Clay Austin Photography for letting us tag along for the joy ride.
