Talk of the Town | The city’s blooming with great new options for brides
  • Whether you’re a bride-to-be or a vendor in the wedding biz looking for truly unique reception décor (and the best new beverages in town), head to North Charleston to discover “The Life of the Party” (2532 Spruill Avenue). The 25,000 square-foot building houses a conglomerate of Ooh! Events (specialty rentals and event planning, 843/881-7576, OohEvents.com); Squeeze OnSite (bartenders serving everything from the norm to craft beer bars and couture cocktails, 843/937-6210, Squeeze-OnSite.com); and Polished (vintage china, crystal, and silver, 843/ 718-1687, PolishedTabletop.com). Offering à-la-carte to full-service options, the teams there are the trick to crafting truly custom fêtes.
  • Spencer Art Gallery (843/722-6854, SpencerArtGallery.com) wants to color your wedding world. Now offering registries, couples can add paintings, sculptures, and prints to the list of items to feather their newlywed nests, and with pieces priced in the double digits and up, there’s sure to be something for every Mr. and Mrs.
  • Nationally renowned Easton Events (843/822-4885, EastonEvents.com) has hung their tile in Charleston. Owner Lynn Easton Andrews (along with her husband, Dean Andrews) took over the former Maison du Pre building at George and East Bay streets to create Zero George (843/817-7900, ZeroGeorge.com), a Euro-style boutique hotel. The fully renovated compound (five buildings centered around a charming courtyard) welcomes events hosting up to 75 people and includes 18 guest suites along with the event office.
  • Other choice wedding vendors have also moved into new digs on the peninsula. Charleston Tuxedo (843/974-5938, CharlestonTuxedo.com), the long-time West Ashley men’s boutique (plus sister event businesses Yoj Events and Breeze) has taken up residence at 60 Calhoun Street. Nationally lauded stationer Delphine (888/570-7181, DelphinePress.com) has swapped San Diego for owner Erika Firm’s native Holy City and set up shop at 218 St. Philip Street in Elliotborough. And in The Shops at Charleston Place, Colonial Candle’s (843/725-6090, ColonialCandle.com) new flagship store now offers their full line of candles, including favor-worthy scents like Benne Wafer, Rainbow Row, and Sweetgrass Basket, and a wedding section with fragrance-free silver and white options, too.
