Timeless Elegance | A classic green-and-white palette set the stage for a spectacular soirée—and second line—in downtown Charleston
Ashleigh Nerozzi & James Farrimond
June 10, 2023 • First Baptist Church and Hibernian Hall

Ashleigh Nerozzi and James Farrimond have a bachelorette party and a bar called Dirty Bill’s to thank for their first introduction. The setting was Austin, where James was living and Ashleigh was visiting for a girlfriend’s last bash. To say they hit it off would be an understatement, and when Ashleigh returned to Charleston, they couldn’t resist staying in touch. A long-distance relationship soon bloomed.

James plotted the perfect proposal over a weekend in Charleston. The plan: following a day on the beach, the two would return to her Riverland Terrace home and bike to a scenic spot on the water, where a photographer was secretly waiting. The only catch? Ashleigh wanted to relax instead. But with some convincing, they were off. And after successfully navigating yet another challenge—a flat bike tire, this time—James took Ashleigh’s breath away with the question of a lifetime.

With the difficult part out of the way, the couple turned to Southern House Events to plan a celebration that felt equal parts classic and fresh. They landed on a bright and airy vibe, with ample pops of green and in-season blooms anchoring the aesthetic.

As light streamed through the broad, arched windows of First Baptist Church, Ashleigh and James said “I do” before their nearest and dearest.

After they made it official, the newlyweds joined their guests in a second line ambling toward Hibernian Hall. “We wanted our guests to experience the beauty of Charleston in a really special way,” Ashleigh says, “and nothing is more special than walking down the middle of Broad Street with church bells ringing!”

Some of the duo’s most diligent planning was spent perfecting the flow of their reception—for guests and themselves. In the interest of open movement and easy mingling, they arranged their banquet-style tables in an “X” shape and placed a circular bar in the center of the room. Eliminating breaks in the schedule ensured all could let loose and revel in the evening. But perhaps most important was the valuable (and deliberately planned) time the newlyweds were able to spend together during the celebration. They savored every sweet moment.
