Although Heather and Peter grew up in the same town in New Jersey, they didn’t officially meet until he noticed her wearing a Ridge High School lacrosse sweatshirt at a Lafayette College fraternity party. That meet-cute kicked off an acquaintance, which, seven years after they started dating, turned into a tropical proposal in the Dominican Republic. Because Heather’s parents had moved to Charleston, and because Charleston is, well, Charleston, they chose the William Aiken House for their nuptials. “We loved how central the venue is to everything,” says Heather, “and that everyone could stay downtown to experience the city that we’ve fallen in love with over the last few years.” Speaking of “experiencing the city,” another chance encounter lead to the bride’s dress pick. Passing by Maddison Row’s showroom at St. Philip and Cannon streets, she spotted a wedding gown in the window that called out to her. Done and done. (And can you blame her? That bow!) Invites went out—many across the pond to the England-born groom’s relatives—resulting in many guests opted for a wedding week here rather than a mere wedding weekend. As for where the happy couple is now? It’s not the easiest of answers. Their first honeymoon was to Aruba. And they just got back from another in Argentina. Next? Who knows …
