College of Charleston student Payton was studying abroad in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where she met and fell for Colin. Payton would eventually move to Belfast, with the two later settling down together in Washington DC. In 2021, while visiting family in Charleston for the holidays, Colin got on one knee under the Christmas tree lights in Marion Square. The couple exchanged vows under the oaks at Creek Club at I’On surrounded by family and friends, who all took trolleys to O’Brions Pub & Grille to continue the celebration.
