Orlando native and helicopter pilot Cotter met Charlestonian Rachel while he was stationed in San Diego and she was working as a traveling nurse. During the following two years, the pair bonded over hiking, visiting farmers markets, writing each other letters, and weekends on Cotter’s boat. During a trip to Lake Powell, Utah, in the summer of 2022, Cotter popped the question while on a sunset cruise. While they now reside in Kaneohe, Hawaii, Cotter and Rachel were wed at Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church on Daniel Island and danced the night away during a reception at the Admiral’s House at Riverfront Park.
