When Caroline met Robert at a climbing gym in Charleston, she says she was starstruck by his throwback look (he was straight out of the 1940s, she says). After a few group climbing trips, she says, “It was like that line from The Fault in Our Stars: ‘I fell in love like you fall asleep, slow at first and then all at once.’ ” After a hilltop proposal in her native France, the couple welcomed one and all to their wedding at Edisto Island Presbyterian Church and reception across the street at the groom’s family home.
