Styled Shoot | Middleton Place

While the event maestro Kim Newton orchestrates plenty of weddings in her own neck of the woods (that’s Alexandria, Virginia), she also has clients who say “I do” here in Charleston. While on one visit to the Lowcountry, she toured Middleton Place, and, as it happens with so many, fell in love with its epic gardens, forever views, and centuries-old trees. So she returned to craft an imagined wedding there that is rife with takeaways for brides. Some of our favorite ideas? Dressing a live oak in colorful blooms to create a ceremony backdrop; writing table assignments on Lucite tiles and stringing those in columns for guests to study; using colored taper candles in brass holders; and adding a grommet to a menu to affix a place card. And that’s to say nothing of the vivid palette. Enjoy what her fresh eyes (and Sam Stroud’s lens) brought to our backyard, and perhaps to your Big Day, too.
