Jennifer Dietz & Agam Jain
October 15, 2016 / Middleton Place

To be honest, Jen and Agam’s first date was something of a letdown. The two had just met on the beach at Sag Harbor. “And like any suave man in his thirties,” says Jen, “he had his friend ask me if I had a boyfriend.” Answering in the negative won her an invitation to a “barbecue” that night. “I showed up to three people and cold food from the joint around the corner,” she laughs. Thankfully, the chemistry between Agam and Jen was red-hot and (eventually) led to their wedding three years later. The first item on her wish list—getting married under Spanish moss—was an easy get given they’d booked Middleton Place, but from there, Jen struggled to find inspiration for an Indian fusion wedding. When she found the perfect lengha (an Indian wedding gown), though, she let its peach, blush, and coral hues lead the palette. On the day of, Agam arrived to the riverside ceremony on horseback (along with his nephew), as the wedding party danced around them. Following their vows, the couple hosted a rocking affair that was just as smokin’ as their initial sparks.

What They Recommend

• Spice up your ceremony arbor. The mandap, or pillared wedding structure (opposite page, top center), was adorned with smilax, roses, and king protea.Lanterns, a loveseat, and leather cushions completed the look.
• Use textured, funky, and functional Bohemian elements like these chandeliers.
• Give little people big roles. Agam’s nephew Aden rode in on horseback with the groom, in keeping with Indian tradition.
